The Project that Brought my Story Full Circle…

The year 2025 brought so many wins for Erica’s Events and Decor—but nothing compares to the moment I turned my pain into purpose.

Being able to transform my own struggles into something meaningful has been one of the greatest honors of my life. When the Poiema Movement asked me to help create the decorating plan for the newly built El Roi House, a transitional home for mothers and children, I felt an immediate calling.

Growing up, my mom entered a transitional home while battling drugs and alcohol. I remember wishing I could have stayed with her, but at that time, places like this didn’t exist for mothers and their children. That experience shaped me. And today, it fuels me. I’m grateful to say my mom has now been in sobriety for over 30 years, a testament to the power of support, faith, and second chances.

Having my mom with me at the ribbon-cutting ceremony made this moment even more profound. Seeing her smile as we walked side by side, celebrating a home that mirrors the support she once needed, brought a deep sense of closure and gratitude. It was a full-circle moment—honoring her journey, our shared resilience, and the opportunity to give back to other mothers and children walking a similar path. Her presence reminded me that the work I do isn’t just about design, it’s about legacy, love, and the enduring power of second chances.

As a designer, I wanted to create a space where mothers feel safe, supported, and surrounded by beauty that reminds them of their worth. A place where healing can begin and confidence can grow. And for the children? A home where they can dream, imagine, and truly thrive.

Pouring love, intention, and dignity into this project is my way of giving back, because many years ago, a local church helped my mom when we needed it most. Now, I get to help create a home that keeps families together and gives them hope for a new beginning.

This is purpose. This is healing. This is full circle.
